"14 years ago many of my cows were dying from bloat every spring...

from the previous 35 years of 500kg/ha 30% potassic Super phosphate. Something was wrong with the grass! My river flats flooded every winter, there was a pan about 8" down. Bloat was everywhere and I couldn't get cows in calf..."

Damon Forsyth - General ManagerDamon

"My career began working in the high voltage power industry, commissioning new power plant and testing and maintaining high voltage equipment all around New Zealand at hydro and thermal generating stations as well as on the high voltage distribution network. I spent 12 years in this industry before deciding to take on a new challenge. This involved a new role as Operations Manager at New Zealand's largest Hazardous Waste Treatment Facility located in Auckland. Here I gained a greater appreciation of the chemistry I had learnt, as well as managing a large number of staff and a diverse range of plant of equipment.

In 2003 I joined Summit Quinphos as their Operations Manager and this was my introduction to the farming industry in New Zealand. During this time I quickly grasped a good understanding of the challenges facing our agricultural sector and was interested in how I could help this industry improve both its financial and environmental performance.

In May 2007 I accepted the role as General Manager for TerraCare Fertiliser and have been working hard to ensure our clients are getting the best advice and value from their fertiliser spend with us. I believe our products offer advantages in productivity and also profitability for farmers over traditional phosphate fertilisers as well as being better for our environment. Who ever said that you can't have your cake and eat it too.

When I'm not working I enjoy fishing and diving in the summer months and the family and I all enjoy snow skiing in the winter. I also enjoy a variety of motorsport events and recently participated in the Dunlop Targa Rally of New Zealand as service crew for a competing BMW.

I hold qualifications in High Voltage Electrical Engineering and a Diploma in Business from Auckland University."

Craig Wormald - Sales and Operations ManagerCraig

"With a trade in engineering and a Honorary Bachelors in Business Management, the diversity between the two has allowed me to approach business both practically with a "hands on" style, as well as viewing it strategically, with growth in mind.

I was appointed General Manager for a Nth Island Dicalcic Company for a period of over 3 years. Upon recently returning from living in the United States, I was appointed as Terracare's Operations, Sales and Marketing Manager, and will serve to continue developing our Market presence, and ensuring that TerraCare is the name Nth Island farmers associate with scientifically proven premium quality Dicalcic Phosphate.

Outside of business hours (if there is such a thing!) I like to waterski on Karapiro, drive my American cars, hang with ,my kids and friends, and go motorcycling with my wife."

Richard Kay - Fertiliser ConsultantRichard Kay

"For 10 years during the 1980's I farmed my own 120ha cattle, maize and deer property at Parawera, Te Awamutu. I made a decision to sell our property but remain in the rural sector to service the farming industry. Through a passion I had developed for high production pasture and maize I entered the fertiliser Industry in 1992. This lead to a basic study of soil science and fertiliser products. Identifying the affects of traditional lines of fertiliser and often serious imbalances that resulted in the soil, lead me to sharpen my soil knowledge skills alongside some product alternatives like Dicalcic Phosphate. For the next 13 years I journeyed into a huge learning curve within this competitive industry working with Northfert Ltd, Te Puke.

I still serve many of my original clients from the early 1990's who have gained significant benefits from long-term personal consultancy and consequentially healthier farm soils and sustainable production. In 2006 I transitioned to TerraCare Ltd, Te Awamutu who had similar philosophy and product lines as the previous company. This was a strategic move to position a manufacturing base for clients who live predominantly in the Waikato.

I am committed to soil testing, annual nutrient budgeting and eco friendly products that enhance production and of course I deeply value my personal relationship with clients and their farm business. My wife Pammela and I enjoy our 3 adult children who are all living in different parts of the world right now. I'm passionate about farming, global travel, 3rd world cultures and strategic personal networking. "

Adrian Carter - Fertiliser Consultant

Adrian

"I was raised in farms in central Hawkes Bay and Gisborne before attending Flock House Farm Training Institute where I gained a good foundation of farming skills and was also accepted to travel to the United Kingdom on a student exchange to Brooksly agricultural college. There I studied a grasslands farm management diploma and worked on the collage farm.

On returning from England I began working on dairy farms and spent six years 50/50 share milking before getting involved in the fertiliser industry. I have been selling di-calcium phosphate for 11 years now with a strong emphasis on balancing farmer's soil nutrient requirements. I have also obtained the overseer nutrient budgeting certificate from Massey University. I enjoy servicing the farming community and building strong relationships with my clients as well as ensuring they are receiving good value from their fertiliser programmes."

John Hibell - Southern Area ManagerJohn Hibell

Born in Levin 1933, grew up on dairy farm. Milked a 50 cow town milk herd but soon looked for a more exciting and rewarding lifestyle. Drove trucks on the highways maintenance group based in Bulls, diversified into stock trucks for Hills Carrying Co for 6 years as well as general merchandise transport. Joined potato growers Bartlett Bros for 5 years until back problems forced me to look at alternative employment.

Having a close interest in land, I joined Summit Products Ltd as local Manawatu general merchandise representative specialising in agricultural chemicals and animal health products. Summit Products were taken over by Bell-Booth Group Ltd and I continued as a wholesale merchandise agent servicing the firms Wrightsons, Dalgetys, Farmlands etc. with a wide range of farm products from salt blocks, electric fencing, seaweed trace elements, animal health and hardware. I returned to farm rep status after retiring as Palmerston North branch manager.

In 1992 I decided to take my future in my own hands a started up as an independent agent selling Foremost Fertiliser which is now known as TerraCare Fertiliser. I have become dedicated to promoting an ever improving range of the dicalcic and liming range of fertiliser products. The demands in and outside the Manawatu led me to solicit the assistance of other agents and now have several colleagues servicing the southern north island area working under my jurisdiction.

I am assisted by my wife Kay who looks after the logistics side of the business coordinating the store at Rongotea stock levels etc. The fertiliser products we are marketing are very quickly gaining recognition and acceptance within the farming community and without doubt we will need to broaden our horizons into Taranaki, Hawkes Bay and surrounding districts very soon.

My leisure time is taken up with vegetable garden and fishing and I am looking forward to spending more time on those pursuits in the near future.

Paul Holloway - Fertiliser ConsultantPaul Holloway

I was born in Hunterville and grew up on the family farm in that area, a sheep and beef farm with a 50 cow dairy unit. After finishing school I went back to the farm and soon gained a farm managers position for a large farming enterprise in the Rangitikei. I spent the next 17 years there till the farm was sold in 1992. This led me with my wife to purchase a horticultural block near Wanganui growing kiwifruit and pears. Enza deregulation forced us into marketing the pears locally ourselves throughout the North Island until it became uneconomic to continue. We still grow kiwifruit for the export markets and are currently working to increase the orchard size with new plantings.

15 years ago I was invited to work for a buttercup squash growing company from the Hawkes Bay, to procure growers and monitor their crops in the Wanganui and Rangitikei region. This along with my pear marketing experience got me involved in sales and marketing. I then spent five years with a landscape supplies business in Wanganui.

As I had gained a very broad knowledge of New Zealand's land based agricultural and horticultural industries, and wanting to better utilize my years of farm and horticultural experience and knowledge, I joined a stockfeed company from Reporoa as a sales rep for the next three years. From there I went to Agrifert selling liquid fertilizers and lime. While here I gained a "Certificate in Sustainable Agriculture" from Nutri-Tech Australia. Since joining Terracare Fertilisers Ltd I have improved my qualifications further by completing "The Certificate of Sustainable Nutrient Management in New Zealand Agriculture" from Massey University. Many farmers are looking at the options and it's pleasing to be able to offer different fertilizer solutions and see the lift in their pasture quality and stock health. Terracare has a large Di-Calcium fertiliser product range to provide solutions to many of the problems of some traditional fertilizers.

I have a strong interest in cricket and rugby and have been heavily involved for many years, from playing in my younger days to coaching and managing teams and working at all management levels on committees and boards.

Ron Jarratt - Fertiliser Consultant Ron Jarratt

I have lived and worked in the Manawatu district all my life. After initially starting out in the transport industry I moved into the fertiliser game in 1993. For sixteen years now I have worked in the fertiliser industry with my first four years being focused on liquid fertilisers. For the past twelve years however, I have been involved with Dicalcic fertilisers and over that period of time I have been able to see the many benefits and results first hand that my clients have been experiencing from using Dicalcic products.

As an independent consultant my first consideration is to my clients to make sure that the dollars spent are going to produce the best overall result. Through TerraCare's ongoing research and investment in product development I am now able to make confident and informed recommendations to my client's individual needs in order to get them the best return from their fertiliser spend.
