"14 years ago many of my cows were dying from bloat every spring...from the previous 35 years of 500kg/ha 30% potassic Super phosphate. Something was wrong with the grass! My river flats flooded every winter, there was a pan about 8" down. Bloat was everywhere and I couldn't get cows in calf............" Allan & Paula Bryant, Parawera

What fertiliser is best for conditioning soil for growing crops?
SoilMaster is a new soil conditioning product that helps crop growers and farmers achieve maximum yield and quality. SoilMaster has been formulated to address the needs of crop growers and contains fast acting calcium, magnesium, boron and sulphur.
SoilMaster is unique in that it is a specially designed soil conditioner that helps growers create the ideal soil environment for growing crops. This product is normally of special interest to growers of potato, squash, maize and other cereal and vegetable crops.
| Mg | Ca | S | B |
SoilMaster | 7.1 | 18.3 | 7.6 | 0.12 |
Indicator application rates:
Pasture: 250 - 300 kg / ha (maximum 500kg)
Crops: 500 - 600 kg / ha (maximum 1000kg)
(Note: The base product can be reformulated to permit heavier application rates where these are required to improve poor soil structure.)
This product can be blended with our Dicalcic Phosphate or Replenish products to provide the required levels of Phosphate as well
Soil Master Information
SoilMaster is a soil conditioner containing fast acting calcium, magnesium sulphur and boron.
Calcium
Calcium is a key nutrient which helps to stimulate plant growth and increase plant uptake of N, P and K. Calcium makes nitrogen use by pasture and crops more efficient, which improves the economics of production. Only in the presence of this key nutrient is it possible to achieve maximum yield and quality.
Calcium Solubility
The key to the effectiveness of SoilMaster is the solubility of the calcium it contains. While limestone contains and releases calcium slowly over time, it does not increase the level of soluble calcium in the soil. SoilMaster contains gypsum, a source of soluble calcium which can raise soil soluble calcium levels and so help to stabilise or improve soil structure. It also contains Calcium Hydroxide, another very soluable form of Calcium that is easy for plant uptake. The improved stability and increased soluble calcium levels can lead to increased root growth, giving improvements in the efficiency of water use and nutrient uptake. These improvements lead to better crop growth and performance, while improved soil structure can also reduce cultivation costs. Over the longer term, as the soluble calcium moves downwards through the soil, it can displace acidic cations (aluminium and hydrogen) from the subsoil and help to reduce subsoil acidity. This will further increase supplies of water and available nutrients for successive crops.
Magnesium
The benefit of blending calcium and magnesium together is to supply these nutrients in the proportions required by the plants. Magnesium is also essential for animal health and therefore a regular supply of magnesium in the form of fertiliser is very important to sustain animal health as well as soil and plant health.
Boron
Boron is a vital trace nutrient for plant growth that is often deficient for crop growth and development. Boron helps calcium uptake in plants and therefore improves cell wall structural strength. Pasture response to boron is usually through improved clover performance but responses can be seen in a whole range of plants with improved growth, seed set, grain or fruit size and energy production.
Sulphur
Sulphur is generally low in recent soils and in the yellow-brown and yellow-grey earth soil groups. These soils are predominant in the Manawatu, Wanganui and Rangitikei regions. SoilMaster contains sulphur to help meet the sulphur requirements of crops grown on these soils.
